THINGS ARE TOUGH ALL OVER..........

Post  Charlie on 2010-08-12, 09:59

Or at least i guess they are. I talked to the promoter of another track today and he said he is ready for the season to be over, like so many other tracks - his is not making any money.
I guess most of it is the economy folks, i know at Conway County we can't get enough people in the pits to make purse most of the time. Several of the drivers come by themselves, just them and the car. People aren't going in the pits like they used to and i guess they can't afford it. Problem is, pit gate fees are what a track has to have to make the purse.
I have read about tracks closing in Tenn. but i can't remember specifics. Here in Arkansas 2 tracks closed last year, 1 track here had to drop Modifieds, and now this season 2 more had to close. I don't know what to do, we are looking at sponsors for CCSS, that will ease some of the $$$ burden on our promoter, but its not going to change the fact that some people can no longer afford to race. Whats going to happen to racing ??

I look at it like a blessing. To many hands in the pot, What started out as a hobby for the working man has grown into a lucrative business opportunity for some. To the point that selling T-Shirts and Pictures are never enough. Now they want you to buy parking spaces in the pits, and what kind of driver are you if you do not have your very own website? The rules are changed, the classes are changed, by influential people, who want to promote some kind of series. The track owners do not work together instead have their own set of tire rules or anything they can think of to hold the drivers to their track. Dirt track racing is nothing compared to Nascar. but in the past few years promoters and track owners have geared it in that direction. Im glad something stopping them and Im sure racing will survive after the sharks go broke and go find a way to make some easy money off someone elses hobbies. to many greedy people feeding off the weekend warriors. Charlie, I don't know the answer, with the heat plus the economics its just hard to get the people there. Maybe the answer is Smaller purses and less expensive classes, but like I said I don't know. But definetly one things for sure something is gonna have to happen.

I know one thing. Less cars and less fans is DEFINITELY not a blessing! I thought we wanted our sport to grow. Not die!

Yeah I would like to see the sport grow but not the high cost of competitiveness. Even though tracks have different classes for different pocketbooks it still cost to much to be competitive at most tracks.

No I don't want it to die, Its just that there are too many cars parked because they cant afford to keep up with all the rule changes. for example several late model drivers went to Crate motors, and this year the rules were changed to Limited Christy sold her motor to buy the crate now she and Richie and a few others are barely keeping up. I love the big series races more than anyone, but Im talking about the drivers who just want to race. Sometimes change is good but not when the track is persuaded to change them so their every weekend drivers can compete in someone series so they can make more money. (Not the driver)

I met a guy at work tonite that drives a stock at Ris he said they are off this weekend. that may be where a lot of them went. Found a track that races them every weekend maybe, I wish they could get the car count back up. its not looking good at all for RIS. That 10.000 Hamptons donating wont go far. The fan count is way down also
