Whynot Motorsport Park Up Next For NeSmith Chev. DLMS
CARTERSVILLE, GA – Round two of the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series season will be this Friday and Saturday at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS with the Winter Bash highlighted by a 50-lap $3,000-to-win main event. The action begins on Thursday night with an open practice session with gates opening at 4 p.m., and practice from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
On Friday, the gates open at 4 p.m., with the drivers meeting scheduled for 7 p.m., with NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Qualifying and Heat Races to follow. Competitors are urged to get to the track early on Friday to fill out their 2010 registration paperwork. Registration will open at 3 p.m. on Friday.
The Saturday schedule for the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS at Whynot Motorsports Park will have the gates opening at 10 a.m., with the drivers meeting scheduled for 1 p.m. and racing to follow. The NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS will run B-Main races and the 50-lap $3,000-to-win main event on Saturday.
William Thomas of Phenix City, AL leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point standings after winning the season opener at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS on January 23. National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame inductee Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN is in the second spot in the points chase.
Justin McRee of nearby Cuba, AL is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Touring points, just six points out of first-place going into the Winter Bash at his home track. Chris Ragan of Ramer, TN is fourth in points, and the defending NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Champion Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS is fifth.
Sixth through tenth respectively in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National point standings going into the Winter Bash are Dan Breuer of Troutman, NC, Jason Wilson of Margaret, AL, Mike Palasini Jr. of Leland, MS, Nick Lyons of Centrailia, IL, and Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA.
Pete Cochran of Villa Rica, GA leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Rookie of the Year point standings over Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS, Charlie Henderson of Cottondale, AL, and Ross Camponovo of Clarksdale, MS.
Local favorites expected include the defending and three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS, the 2009 NeSmith Chevrolet WRS Whynot Motorsport Park Late Model Champion Randy Boyd of Marion, MS, and the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region Champion Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS.
